Concussion Protocol
Steps to Follow:

Immediate Action:

Remove the individual from play or activity immediately if a concussion is suspected.

Monitor the individual for signs and symptoms of a concussion, including but not limited to:

Headache
-
Dizziness
-
Nausea or vomiting
-
Confusion or memory loss
-
Sensitivity to light or noise
-
Loss of consciousness (even briefly).

Notify and Document:

Inform the on-duty supervisor immediately.
-
Notify the individual’s parent/guardian (if applicable).

Complete an Incident Report Form with detailed observations and actions taken.

Medical Evaluation:

Recommend that the individual seek medical evaluation as soon as possible.
-
If the individual is unconscious or showing severe symptoms, call emergency services (911).

Return-to-Play Guidelines:
-
The individual must not return to play or activity on the same day as the suspected concussion.
-
Require written clearance from a licensed healthcare provider before allowing the individual to resume activities.

Follow-Up:
-
Monitor the individual’s progress and ensure they follow a graduated return-to-play protocol as recommended by a healthcare professional.
